If you have trouble staying on track with your fitness goals every year, don't worry I'm here to help you. I'm going to give you some tips on how you can stay on track this year and crush your fitness goals! If you need help on setting up your calories/macros, read my complete FAT LOSS GUIDE.

Tip #1: Be Realistic With What You Can Commit To

I see this happen to a lot of people every single year. They get so excited to start crushing their fitness goals so they decide to workout every single day. They complete the first week, but end up burning themselves out within the first month. It’s probably not wise to workout that much if you have never done it before. This is why I always ask, “How many days can you realistically workout?” before creating a program for a client. This is a question you should answer for yourself. Remember that you don’t have to workout every single day in order to see results. It’s what you can consistently do over the course of a year and beyond. Don’t choose programs where you know it will end up being too much for you to handle. Workout for less days and be consistent. This way you won't quit within the first 30 days of a program. You can obtain great results from with less workouts if you are consistent with the program.

Tip #2: Be Brutally Honest With Yourself

This might sound harsh, but I mean it with love. It’s that tough love you need to give yourself. Be brutally honest with your level of consistency and effort. If you always find yourself losing track every weekend, take note of it. Don’t just brush it off, especially if it’s the reason why you've been stuck with your progress. Be honest with yourself, "Are you staying on track with your fitness goals?" When you can be honest with yourself, it gives you the opportunity to take action to make a change. I would have these talks with myself all the time if I find myself falling off track. It’s helpful to just understand where you know you can make improvements. Don’t beat around the bush with yourself. Just be brutally honest and you will start taking action towards making a change.

Tip #3: Don’t be so Hard on Yourself

Even though I just mentioned about giving yourself that tough love, you also don’t need to be so hard on yourself. That means if you miss a workout or fall off track on a single day, it isn’t the end of the world. You don’t have to beat yourself up over wanting to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Sometimes you have to purposely fall off track in order to stay on track with your fitness goals. It’s part of being a human. What you don’t want to do is punish yourself afterwards for missing a workout or overeating. You don’t need to do extra cardio or skip meals just to make up for what you did. Just simply get back on the plan and continue showing up.

Tip #4 Be Consistent and Patient

If there are two attributes I want you to have for a successful fitness journey, it’s consistency and patience. These two attributes will have you stay on track not only for your fitness goals, but with everything in life. There’s nothing more important than being consistent with your workouts and nutrition. Even though intensity and effort matters, if you aren’t consistent, you will never see the results that you want. This shouldn’t be a race to see what’s the most amount of weight you can lose within 30 days. Remember that this is a marathon, not a race. Don’t allow a single off day, week, or even month to stop you from getting back on track. As long as you are consistent, there will be results.

Tip #5 Stop Relying on Motivation for Everything

Motivation will only get you so far when it comes to your workouts and nutrition. There are days where I don’t even feel like working out. And I’m supposed to love it right!? since I’m a trainer. But the truth is that you're not going to be motivated every single day. You don’t have to be motivated every single day to stay on track. Having a plan and schedule definitely helps with staying on track. If you have a scheduled workout session, show up for it even if you aren’t feeling the best. This doesn’t mean you should workout if you have the flu, but don’t just let it pass by you. Discipline and grit of getting it done is far more powerful than motivation.

Bonus Tip: It’s Not Going to be Easy

No one said this is going to be a walk in the park. You’re going to have moments where you want to quit. You’re going to have days where you fall off track with your nutrition. You might miss a workout because you weren’t feeling it. There’s going to be a lot of ups and downs with your progress. It’s never going to be linear. Be prepare and know that it’s going to require consistent effort from you in order to see the changes you want.
